Dear Parents, Grandparents and Guardians:
It has been a pleasure for me to be a part of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Academy family since the 2010-11 school year. We have a wonderful staff which holds Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degrees. Professional Development is necessary for effective instruction. We promote teacher development through a leadership team, train the trainer experiences, and the web-based program PD360. As we strive to cultivate our Professional Learning Community, we have implemented weekly collaborative planning sessions within the grade level teams. To promote good working relationships and create a sense of family, a spiritual staff retreat is held each fall.
Father Jim Boccabella, our pastor, joined the St. Francis Xavier Parish in July 2011. He has provided spiritual enhancement through weekly Masses, and spiritual seminars for our students. We have begun the St. Francis Xavier Project under his leadership so that students can learn about the school’s namesake and follow in St. Francis’ path of promoting missionary work.
We reflect our mission through Love of God, Love of Others and Love of Self as we teach our students reliance on God and their inner strengths. We have reintroduced the Virtues/Values Infusion Program and personal responsibility through the KELSO’s conflict management program which focuses on making good choices when a small problem arises. In conjunction with this focus on raised responsibility, we have introduced the Responsibility Is Mandatory Center. The RIM program focuses on good attendance, good behavior, uniform compliance and completion of all assignments.
The strong academic program at St. Francis Xavier is firmly rooted in literacy and math readiness. The Castle Readers Program in Pre-K through 2nd grade focuses on guided reading and emerging literacy, and promotes enhanced reading, listening and retelling skills through the use of Fairy Tales as early as ages 3 and 4. We have introduced hands-on Algebra in grades 3 through 5; and select students in 7th and 8th grades have the benefit of our Algebra Prep Program.
In addition to a rigorous academic program we offer the following extracurricular activities: primary choir, regular choir, Spanish choir, the seventh grade ensemble, tennis, guitar, green patrol – recycling, chess, Equestrian Book Club, Drama Club, basketball, Tai- Chi, Bible Study, Garden Club, Newspaper Club, Art Club, Poetry Club,Get Fit and much more. The after school Get Set program focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
In closing, I would like to thank the St. Francis Xavier family of parents, grandparents and guardians, for entrusting us with your most treasured assets, your children. I also extend my gratitude to the faculty and staff and our very active and supportive Home School Association and School Advancement/Strategic Planning Committee. All of us working together collaboratively can help ensure that St. Francis Xavier Catholic Academy continues to provide an excellent, faith-filled education to our students.
